Ekiti First Lady Tasks Venite University Students On Food Security

At the maiden matriculation ceremony of Venite University, Iloro Ekiti, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the First Lady of Ekiti State, urged new students to engage in personal gardening to boost food security. She emphasized using the university’s land to grow vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, maize, and okra, aiming for at least 50 percent of campus vegetable consumption.

Dr. Oyebanji praised Venite University’s vision and encouraged students to strive for excellence. She shared her own gardening experience and highlighted the “Own A Garden” initiative by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, which promotes small-scale agriculture among women.

She presented the Vice-Chancellor’s award of N50,000 to Miss Tolulope Oluwatimilehin for the highest CGPA of 4.82 and Professor Patrick Aina announced scholarships for the top 50 students starting next year. Hon. Biodun Omoleye pledged support for 100 students, and Vice Chancellor Prof. James Olaogun assured a conducive environment for skill development.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, academics, parents, and guardians.
