Venite University Hosts International Lecture on Nanotechnology as a Frontier of Scientific Transformation

Venite University hosted a distinguished international lecture on “Introduction to Nanotechnology: An Emerging Frontier in Scientific Transformation by the speaker, Dr. Aver Maria Hemben, at the University Auditorium. The event aligns with the university’s mission to provide quality education that produces self-reliant graduates ready to engage with the demands of an ever-changing world towards global academic integration and scientific advancement.

Professor E. Babatope Alo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, welcomed the speaker on behalf of the university and thanked her for taking the time to introduce the students to the world of nanotechnology, a field she passionately promotes.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Aver Maria Hemben, an internationally acclaimed nanotechnology expert and Director of MTRIAD (UK). Dr. Hemben explored nanotechnology as a revolutionary and interdisciplinary field with transformative applications in science, healthcare, and industry. She introduced the concept of nanoscale frontiers, explaining how materials exhibit unique behaviours at the atomic level, and discussed nanofabrication methods such as top-down and bottom-up approaches.

Her lecture covered the implications of quantum phenomena, including distinct optical, magnetic, and electrical properties at the nanoscale, innovations in nanomedicine, highlighting progress in targeted drug delivery, diagnostics, and regenerative treatments. She also examined breakthroughs in emerging technologies like nanosensors and nanorobotics, alongside the ethical, safety, and regulatory considerations essential for responsible development and public trust in nanotechnology.

The hybrid format of the event welcomed participants both in person and virtually, drawing a diverse audience from Nigeria, other African nations, and the global academic community. This robust participation underscores Venite University’s expanding international reach and dedication to inclusive scholarly discourse.

A dynamic Q&A session followed the lecture, during which Dr. Hemben addressed questions on public trust in nanotechnology, the challenges of regulation, and strategies to promote responsible innovation and societal acceptance and its ever-evolving influence to revolutionise other areas of life like computing and others now and in the future.

Professor E. Babatope Alo, the deputy vice-chancellor, emphasised the institutional significance of the lecture, stating that it demonstrates the university’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global collaboration. The lecture was given pro bono at the initiative of Prof. Babatope Alo.

With its bold embrace of frontier science and an innovation-first approach to learning, Venite University is fast emerging as a regional beacon for research excellence and transformative impact. Events like this not only amplify its global outlook but also underscore its commitment to producing self-reliant, future-ready graduates poised to lead on the world stage.
