Venite University Illuminates the Spirit of Christmas with Mesmerizing 2024 Carol and Nine Lessons Celebration
Venite University set the season aglow with its dazzling 2024 Christmas Carol and Nine Lessons celebration, an evening that embodied the true essence of Christmas in grandeur and reverence. The event commenced with a heartfelt and electrifying session of praise and worship, leaving the audience uplifted and ready for a night to remember. Pastor Adewumi’s thunderous opening prayer then set the stage for a spiritually charged evening, resonating deeply with all in attendance.
Prof. (Rev. Father) J.A. Olaogun, the Vice Chancellor, extended a warm and cheerful welcome in his opening address, brimming with Yuletide spirit and goodwill. His message was followed by an enchanting Christmas story, expertly narrated by the Registrar, Dr. E.A. Agbaje, whose words beautifully captured the magic and profound meaning of the season.
The students took the spotlight in reading the nine lessons from the Scriptures with unshakable conviction, bringing to life passages from Genesis to the Gospel of John. Each reading was met with enthusiastic participation from the congregation, who echoed their joy through spirited renditions of traditional carols. The harmonious voices filled the air with timeless hymns, including Joy to the World, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, creating an atmosphere of divine celebration.
Adding to the vibrancy of the evening were spirited performances that left the audience enthralled. A lively dancing competition had hearts racing, while a comical yet thought-provoking drama titled The Prophecies of the Messiah brought laughter and reflection in equal measure. The 100-level and 200-level students’ mass choirs delivered stirring renditions that highlighted the extraordinary musical talent within the university, capped by a powerful rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus that drew standing ovations.
The highlight of the evening came with Pastor Adewumi’s soul-stirring sermon, aptly titled The Reason for the Season. With passion and eloquence, he reminded the congregation of the virtues of love, compassion, and selflessness, inspiring a wave of reflective joy and heartfelt worship.
The ceremony concluded with a crescendo of patriotism and pride as the Venite University anthem echoed across the hall, followed by a spirited rendition of the Nigerian national anthem. A closing prayer brought the evening to a serene and spiritual close, reinforcing the values of unity, fellowship, and gratitude that underpin the Christmas season.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Olaogun expressed his pride in the students’ exceptional performances, commending their talents and affirming the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders who will shine in service to God and humanity. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reminding the students to cherish the holiday season with loved ones. Prof. Olaogun also announced that the university would resume academic activities on January 5th, 2025, urging everyone to return refreshed and ready for the new year.
