Venite University Signs MoU with Ekiti State Government to Advance Medical Training
Venite University has secured a formal agreement with the Ekiti State Government to enable its medical students to undergo clinical training at the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero Ekiti. This arrangement ensures that students gain essential hands-on experience in a real hospital setting, equipping them with the practical skills necessary for professional medical practice.
Speaking at the official signing in Ado-Ekiti, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Human Services, Mrs. Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, described the grant as a critical step in strengthening healthcare education and service delivery in the state. She emphasized that the initiative would provide Venite University medical students with structured clinical and rural medical training opportunities.
“The agreement establishes a structured framework where students from Venite University will undergo intensive clinical training at the State Specialist Hospital in Ijero, with additional health centres designated for rural medical practice,” Mrs. Gbenga-Igotun stated.
A team from Venite University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor James Olaogun, described the MoU as a significant milestone in the institution’s mission to produce highly skilled medical professionals. They noted that this arrangement would enhance students’ practical experience, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world medical application.
“This arrangement aligns with our vision of producing competent healthcare professionals equipped to excel in medical practice. Providing our students with exposure to high-quality clinical training is essential to ensuring they graduate with the necessary expertise to meet modern healthcare challenges,” the team stated.
They commended the Ekiti State Government for its commitment to healthcare infrastructure, noting that ongoing hospital renovations would further enhance training opportunities. They stressed that a well-equipped healthcare system is fundamental to producing proficient doctors capable of addressing evolving health challenges.
The university team highlighted the importance of hands-on clinical exposure in refining students’ diagnostic, treatment, and patient management skills. They pointed out that medical students would gain experience across various medical fields, including community health, emergency care, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, and internal medicine.

Key officials present at the ceremony included Venite University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor James Olaogun; Registrar, Dr. Ezekiel Agbaje; Director of Strategy, Advancement, and Partnership, Mr. Oladapo Kolawole; and other stakeholders such as the Permanent Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olasunkanmi Alabi, and the Director of Hospital Services and Training, Dr. Olumide Obe.
