Venite University Celebrates the Appointment of Ebenezer Kolawole as the Acting MD/CEO of Unity Bank Nigeria Plc

Venite University has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Ebenezer Kolawole on his appointment as the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Unity Bank Plc, recognising his decades of leadership and expertise in the financial sector.

In an official letter signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Dr. E.A. Agbaje, the university celebrated Kolawole’s ascension as a reflection of his exceptional leadership, financial acumen, and dedication to excellence. The statement, issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff, and Students, underscored his contributions to the institution’s Governing Council, where his strategic insights have been invaluable.

Ebenezer Kolawole, who steps into the top leadership role at Unity Bank following the retirement of Oluwatomi Somefun, has over three decades of experience in banking and financial services. His journey began in 1992 at Caribbean Finance Limited in Kaduna, before moving on to Ecobank, where he rose through the ranks in Operations and Finance. His role in the Standard Trust Bank and United Bank for Africa merger positioned him as a key financial strategist, later serving as Chief Financial Officer at UBA. As Group Chief Finance Officer at Mainstreet Bank, he spearheaded critical restructuring initiatives, and his tenure at Globacom further strengthened his corporate leadership credentials.

A First-Class Accounting graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, Kolawole refined his expertise at Columbia Business School and The Wharton School. His professional memberships span the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Institute of Credit Administration, and the Institute of Directors, affirming his standing as a respected figure in the industry.

Since joining Unity Bank as Chief Financial Officer in 2015 and later assuming the role of Executive Director, he has played a pivotal role in streamlining operations, optimising costs, and enhancing market positioning. His new leadership position signals a strategic shift aimed at driving growth, innovation, and financial stability at the bank.
