The second day of Venite University’s Orientation Programme, held on December 3, 2024, was a resounding triumph, as erudite guest lecturers shared their profound insights with the fresh students, imparting a vast array of knowledge upon them.
The University Orator, Prof. Malomo, introduced the guest lecturers with remarkable flair, setting the tone for a day of intellectual enrichment and edification.
Engr. Arowolo, Director of Fountainpay, delivered a goodwill message, congratulating the students on their admission to Venite University and emphasizing the importance of acquiring skills and computer literacy alongside their course of study. He highlighted the university’s state-of-the-art CBT centre, underscoring the institution’s commitment to providing students with a cutting-edge education. As he astutely observed, “Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and values.”
The University Director of Sports, Mr. Oluyemi Joshua Babatunde, regaled the audience with his experiences representing Nigeria in international sports competitions, extolling the virtues of sporting activities and their role in fostering physical and mental well-being.
Distinguished Prof. Cecilia Olufunmilayo Akintayo delivered a tour-de-force lecture on coping with peer group pressure and relationships with the opposite sex. With her characteristic intellectual prowess, she elucidated the nuances of peer pressure, highlighting its capacity to be neutral, positive, or negative, and its far-reaching consequences. Prof. Akintayo urged the students to prioritize academic excellence and resist negative peer influence, emphasizing the importance of developing a strong sense of self and moral fibre.
Mr. Mark Chinedu Eze, leading a team from Premium Trust Bank (PTB), introduced the bank’s services to the students, highlighting the benefits of banking with one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing banks. With his trademark affability, he outlined the bank’s commitment to providing excellent customer service and its dedication to supporting the academic pursuits of Venite University students.
Dr. Mrs. Nike Kolawole emphasized the importance of decent dressing, defining it as wearing clothes that are modest, respectful, stylish and classic. With her characteristic warmth and empathy, she urged the students to eschew indecent dressing, citing the negative consequences of peer group influence, social media and lack of parental supervision.
Dr. Prince Olabode Adetoyi, Former Ekiti State Agric Commissioner & Director, Value Ingredients & Hi-Nutrients International introduced the students to entrepreneurial skills and employability skills, defining an entrepreneur as someone who utilizes available resources to do business and make a profit. With his characteristic authority and expertise, he highlighted the abilities of a successful businessman, including networking, salesmanship and good character.
The session concluded on a high note with a book award ceremony, where Adaralegbe David of the Nursing Department and Ire Ayomide of the Criminology Department received books for their active participation from Dr. Olabode, in recognition of their intellectual curiosity and academic excellence. In a thrilling finale, Ogundiwon Isaac of the Medical Radiography department beamed with joy as he received a fantastic cash award for his exceptional brilliance in the class ,also from Dr. Olabode.
The event provided a blend of entertainment and profound enrichment for the students, delivering experiences that words can hardly capture. Aligning with the school’s vision, aimed to nurture self-reliant graduates equipped with strong leadership skills.
